Nikki started doing makeup in her early twenties after deciding that traditional school wasn't for her. She grew up in Los Angeles — the most competitive market in the beauty industry — and built her entire career on word of mouth. No connections. No shortcuts. Just showing up, saying yes to every job, and being so good that people couldn't stop recommending her.
Night shoots, Headshots, Weddings, Proms, Free test shoots. She said yes to all of it. Because in this industry, your reputation is everything — and you build reputation through experience, not resumes.
Over 18 years, that hustle turned into a career working with Celebrities, TV commercials, Network television including E!, Bravo, Food network, NBC Olympics, ESPN, Major beauty, Clothing and hair brands on campaign productions. The kind of work where a 12-hour shoot day is normal and your products have to perform under studio lights, not just look good in packaging.
From behind the camera to in front of it
After 14 years of nonstop hustle, Nikki shifted some of her focus to the digital world. She launched her YouTube channel — Makeup By Nikki La Rose — and everything changed.
What started as a way to share the tips and techniques she'd been using on set for over a decade turned into a community of over 505,000 subscribers and more than 124 million views. Her videos aren't influencer content. They're a professional makeup artist teaching you what actually works — the same way she'd teach an assistant on set.
Nikki films from her home studio in Los Angeles multiple days a week. The rest of the time, she's still working. Still on set. Still testing every product she talks about under the conditions that matter.
Why she built the brand
After years of reaching for other people's products, Nikki started building her own.
